Specialized Web Design Services

In collaboration with CAMS Ltd. of Cochin, India, we have developed specialized services to support Web deployment of online catalogs of statistical resources. We also offer a host of associated web design services.

The Problem

Statistical information is generated by a large number of organizations including numerous federal agencies, state and local governments and private companies and organizations. Researchers and ordinary citizens often have difficulty finding the appropriate reports of these statistics. Web site sponsors frequently want to offer their users information about related statistical resources but find it difficult to find, track and maintain this information.

Current Resources

Several Companies offer comprehensive coverage of these resources to large organizations—such as Universities, large law firms and consulting companies. However, these services are not targeted to the specific needs of organizations that produce, analyze or use specific parts this large and unorganized stockpile. As well, some websites may contain thousands of reports, tables and graphs. Webmasters look for ways to help their users navigate their own resources and find related statistical information.

Our Solution

Finding and using statistical resources can be greatly enhanced by integrating databases that help users locate websites with specific information. While search engines can help, they often cannot find the specific information needed because they lack appropriate descriptions. Library catalogs provide similar information about published books, but do not cover information and reports appearing on the Web. To meet the need for this information, Dan Melnick Research collaborated with CAMS Ltd. to develop an approach that combines library cataloging and a database application to make this kind of information available on Websites.
