Dr. Melnick has worked as a consultant since 1997 with a strong emphasis on projects related to the collection, compilation and reporting of statistical material and a particular focus on Health statistics. He was on the staff of the Congressional Research Service from 1975 to 1990. The National Science Foundation from 1990 to 1997 during which time he served as Director, Science Resources Studies Division and also was detailed to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [1992 to 1996] to set up and run the new Office of Applied Studies. Dr. Melnick is a member of Academy Health, the American Public Health Association, the American Statistical Association and the American Political Science Association.
